Khon Dee Rak Lok: Good People Preserve the World

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and the exceptional individuals we honor today as guardians of our planet,
It is a great honor to address you on this occasion of the “Kohn Dee Rak Lok: Good People Preserve the World" award ceremony. Beyond celebrating individual achievements, today's gathering affirms the fact that hope and action can flourish in the face of the formidable challenge of environmental degradation.
The theme, "Time to Care for the World," resonates with urgency and necessity. Pope Francis, in his encyclical Laudato Si', powerfully reminds us that our Earth, our common home, is being harmed—plundered, abused, and despoiled. It cries out for attention, and so do so many of the poor and marginalized who are most affected by these changes. Brother and sisters, ignoring these cries is no longer an option. The consequences of our inaction are vividly displayed every single day in melting glaciers, rising tides, and erratic climate patterns.
In the midst of this crisis, we find hope in the unwavering commitment of the "good people" we honor today. Each awardee embodies the spirit of Laudato Si', showcasing that caring for the world is not just a responsibility but a privilege and a calling.
Indeed, those honor today are examples that underscore the power of and need for collective action. As Pope Benedict XVI eloquently stated, "The future of the planet depends on our ability to cooperate."
Laudato Si' provides us with a clear framework for this collective action. It calls for an "integral ecology," recognizing the interconnectedness of all living beings and the environment. Beyond technical solutions, it urges us to embrace a holistic vision that encompasses social justice, economic fairness, and cultural diversity.
However, let us not view these kind of evens as endpoint buttons of many launching pads for further action. The stories and work of our awardees should inspire us to step out of our comfort zones, challenge the status quo, and actively participate in healing our planet.
Regardless of our background or resources, we can all contribute to this mission. Consider practical steps like reducing our carbon footprint through conscious daily choices, embracing sustainable living by conserving water and recycling, raising awareness about environmental issues, and supporting organizations working on solutions.
The time for apathy is over. Our common home, the Earth, calls upon us to act with compassion, ingenuity, and unwavering resolve. Let us be the generation that answers this call with concrete actions, leaving a legacy of a healthier planet for generations to come.
Remember, the future is shaped by the choices we make today. Let us choose to be the "good people" who not only preserve the world but actively heal and nurture it for the benefit of all.

ท่านสุภาพสตรีและสุภาพบุรุษ แขกผู้มีเกียรติ และบุคคลพิเศษที่เราชื่นชมในวันนี้ในฐานะผู้ที่ดูแลโลกของเรา
เราถือเป็นเกียรติอย่างยิ่งที่ได้กล่าวปราศรัยในพิธีมอบรางวัล “คนดีรักษ์โลก” ครั้งนี้ นอกเหนือจากการเฉลิมฉลองความสำเร็จของแต่ละคนแล้ว การรวมตัวในวันนี้ยังตอกย้ำถึงความจริงที่ว่าความหวังและการลงมือทำ จะมีความเป็นไปได้มากขึ้นเมื่อเรากล้าที่จะเผชิญกับความท้าทายของความเสื่อมโทรมของสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เกิดขึ้น
หัวข้อ "Time to Care for the World: ถึงเวลาแล้วที่ต้องดูแลโลก" สะท้อนถึงความเร่งด่วนและความจำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ในพระสมณสาสน์ Laudato Si' (เลาดาโต ซี) สมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาฟรังซิสได้ทรงเตือนเราอย่างมีพลังว่า โลกของเราซึ่งเป็นบ้านที่เราอาศัยอยู่ร่วมกันนั้นกำลังได้รับอันตราย—จากการถูกปล้น ถูกทารุณกรรม และถูกทำลาย โลกของเราเรียกร้องความสนใจ เช่นเดียวกับคนยากจนและคนชายขอบที่ได้รับผลกระทบมากที่สุดจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงเหล่านี้ พี่น้องทั้งหลาย การเพิกเฉยต่อเสียงร้องเหล่านี้ไม่ใช่ทางเลือกอีกต่อไป ผลที่ตามมาจากความเกียจคร้านของเรานั้นแสดงให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนทุกวันในธารน้ำแข็งที่กำลังละลาย กระแสน้ำที่เพิ่มสูงขึ้น และรูปแบบสภาพอากาศที่แปรปรวน

แท้จริงแล้ว เกียรติยศเหล่านั้นในปัจจุบันเป็นตัวอย่างที่ตอกย้ำถึงพลังและความจำเป็นในการลงมือทำร่วมกัน ดังที่สมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาเบเนดิกต์ที่ 16 ตรัสไว้อย่างชัดเจนว่า "อนาคตของโลกขึ้นอยู่กับความสามารถของเราในการร่วมมือกัน"
Laudato Si' (เลาดาโต ซี) มอบกรอบการทำงานที่ชัดเจนสำหรับการดำเนินการร่วมกันนี้ โดยเรียกร้องให้มี "ระบบนิเวศที่เป็นองค์รวม" โดยตระหนักถึงความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างสิ่งมีชีวิตและสิ่งแวดล้อมทั้งหมด นอกเหนือจากการแก้ปัญหาทางเทคนิคแล้ว ยังกระตุ้นให้เรายอมรับวิสัยทัศน์แบบองค์รวมที่ครอบคลุมถึงความยุติธรรมทางสังคม ความเป็นธรรมทางเศรษฐกิจ และความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรม

ไม่ว่าภูมิหลังหรือทรัพยากรของเราจะเป็นอย่างไร เราทุกคนสามารถที่จะมีส่วนร่วมในภารกิจนี้ได้เช่นกัน ลองพิจารณาขั้นตอนการปฏิบัติ เช่น การลดปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ด้วยการเลือกอย่างมีสติในแต่ละวัน การใช้ชีวิตที่ยั่งยืนโดยการอนุรักษ์น้ำและการรีไซเคิล การสร้างความตระหนักรู้เกี่ยวกับปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อม และการสนับสนุนองค์กรที่ทำงานเกี่ยวกับแนวทางแก้ไขปัญหาดังกล่าว
หมดเวลาแล้วที่เราจะนิ่งเฉย โลกซึ่งเป็นบ้านร่วมกันของเราเรียกร้องให้เราเริ่มลงมือทำด้วยความเห็นอกเห็นใจ ความเฉลียวฉลาด และความมุ่งมั่นอย่างแน่วแน่ ขอให้เราเป็นคนรุ่นที่ตอบรับการเรียกร้องนี้ด้วยการกระทำที่เป็นรูปธรรม โดยทิ้งมรดกของโลกที่มีสุขภาพดีขึ้นไว้สำหรับคนรุ่นต่อๆ ไป
โปรดจำไว้ว่า อนาคตถูกกำหนดโดยการเลือกที่เราทำในวันนี้ ให้เราเลือกที่จะเป็น "คนดี" ที่ไม่เพียงแต่ปกป้องโลก แต่ยังรักษาและเลี้ยงดูโลกอย่างแข็งขันเพื่อประโยชน์ของทุกคน
